Unlikely internationals 10: Sander Boschker

When he came on in the second half to replace Michel Vorm in the friendly against Ghana on May 27th, Sander Boschker became the oldest Dutch debutant and international ever. The next month, being 39, he was also the oldest member of any squad at the WC 2010. It was a crazy spring for the FC Twente-keeper as he had also just celebrated the first national title for the club in history.
His debut in the Champions League this season against Spurs was one to forget, but it will not take the glance off his career. Twenty years at FC Twente and one at Ajax, where he became the understudy for upcoming Maarten Stekelenburg. Funny detail: He conceded two own goals in the first half at his debut against Haarlem in 1989.
Update: Sander played the cupgames for FC Twente this season. Yesterday they qualified for the final. Should be an appropriate goodbye for him. It will be his third final. In 2001 Boschker was the hero in the penalty shoot-out against PSV.
